Unicode's new emoji refuses to put respect on Bigfoot's name

Unicode's new emoji refuses to put respect on Bigfoot's name

The Unicode Consortium has announced the addition of a "Hairy Creature" emoji to the Unicode 17.0 standard, which will be released in September 2025. While the creature is widely known as Bigfoot, the global nature of Unicode makes it preferable to use a more generic term to avoid regional-specific nomenclature. Other new emojis being added include a trombone, treasure chest, distorted face, fight cloud, apple core, and orca. These new emojis will likely be added to Android and iOS platforms after the standard is updated, but users can currently create similar images using Genmoji or Emoji Kitchen.
