Meta rolls out teen accounts for Facebook and Messenger across the world

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Messenger, is rolling out dedicated "teen accounts" globally. These accounts come with added parental controls and safety features to protect younger users. The expansion follows the introduction of similar accounts on Instagram a year ago. The teen accounts are mandatory for users aged 13-15, and Meta uses AI to detect any attempts to lie about age. Parents can now monitor their children's screen time and messaging activities on these platforms. The accounts also have more restrictive privacy and safety settings to limit contact with unknown adults. Additionally, Meta is expanding its "school partnership program" in the US, which allows schools to quickly report bullying and other problematic behavior on Instagram. This move comes as the company faces ongoing lawsuits and investigations into its child safety practices.
