Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Qualcomm has unveiled its latest flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which promises better performance and bigger battery savings. The SoC features a third-generation Oryon CPU with improved single- and multi-core performance, as well as a faster Hexagon NPU for enhanced on-device AI experiences. The updated CPU offers up to 35% better power efficiency, contributing to a 16% improvement in overall SoC efficiency. The Adreno GPU also sees a 23% increase in gaming performance, along with a 20% drop in power consumption. The Hexagon NPU claims 37% faster performance and power savings. Qualcomm suggests these improvements could enable more personalized AI that continues to learn about the user over time. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also boasts enhanced camera capabilities, including support for the APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec and a "computational video pipeline" that allows for AI-powered video enhancements. The X85 modem further promises 50% lower gaming latency thanks to "AI-enhanced Wi-Fi." The new SoC is expected to be featured in upcoming Android flagship devices.
