Landmark study shows 1.4m Britons have a gambling problem

According to a landmark study by the Gambling Commission, an estimated 1.4 million adults in Great Britain have a gambling problem. The annual survey found that 2.7% of adults scored 8 or above on the problem gambling severity index, indicating significant negative consequences from betting. The report highlights the growing dangers of slot machines and in-play betting on matches, which have become increasingly prevalent in the £11.5bn gambling industry. The findings come just days after the chancellor hinted at the possibility of increasing taxes on the industry, suggesting growing concern over the social and economic impact of problem gambling in the country.
