NVIDIA shows off its first Blackwell wafer manufactured in the US

NVIDIA has taken a significant step in strengthening its domestic chip manufacturing by unveiling the first Blackwell wafer made in the US. The company assembled the wafer, which is the base material for its AI chips, at TSMC's semiconductor manufacturing facility in Phoenix, Arizona. NVIDIA's Blackwell platform, launched last year, aims to revolutionize the AI industry, boasting improved performance and reduced cost and energy consumption compared to its predecessor. This move allows NVIDIA to better insulate itself from evolving tariff situations and geopolitical tensions. NVIDIA's founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, hailed this as a historic event, with the single most important chip being manufactured in the US by the most advanced fab, TSMC. NVIDIA is also working on expanding its manufacturing footprint across the US, planning to invest half a trillion dollars towards building AI infrastructure through partnerships with TSMC, Foxconn, and other companies.
