Angry Birds Developer Cuts 36 Jobs After One Game Underperforms
Angry Birds developer Rovio is cutting 36 jobs after one of its games, Angry Birds Dream Blast, underperformed. The layoffs are part of a reorganization, where Rovio is shifting towards a more game-centric approach and aiming to respond better to market demands. While no upcoming games have been canceled, Rovio's team in Finland will work on fewer titles, while the office in Barcelona will be expanded. Sega, which acquired Rovio in 2023 for over $750 million, aims to bolster the company's mobile efforts. Despite the layoffs, Rovio is hiring for several new roles as part of this restructuring. Additionally, a third Angry Birds movie is slated for release in December 2026, with popular YouTuber Mr Beast joining the cast alongside other notable actors.
