Apple Watch Series 11 receives FDA clearance for hypertension alerts
Apple's new Apple Watch Series 11 has received FDA clearance for its hypertension alerts feature. This feature uses the watch's optical heart sensor and a new machine learning algorithm to detect patterns associated with hypertension (high blood pressure) over a month-long period. The feature will be available to users in 150 countries when the Watch 11 and Ultra Watch 3 ship starting on September 19. Unlike devices that measure specific blood pressure, the hypertension alerts only notify users that there may be a danger. Last year, Apple received FDA clearance for its over-the-counter Hearing Aid function and sleep apnea detection feature. However, the company is currently facing a lawsuit over the Apple Watch's redesigned blood oxygen monitoring feature.
