Xbox Announces Another Price Hike, This Time For Developers

Microsoft has announced a 33% price hike for its Xbox Development Kit (XDK), increasing the cost from $1,500 to $2,000. The company cites "macroeconomic developments" as the reason for the price increase, which is likely in response to the ongoing trade tariffs imposed by the US government on imports from China. The XDK features enhanced specifications compared to the consumer Xbox Series X model, including 40GB of GDDR6 memory and additional debugging tools. This price hike follows a previous increase in the cost of Xbox consoles sold to consumers earlier this year. Additionally, Microsoft has raised the price of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription by 50%, from $20 to $30 per month. The company has acknowledged that these price increases are "never fun for anybody," but has stated that it is committed to providing high-quality tools and support for developers.
