Threads is getting a 'communities' feature for better conversations

Meta is testing a new "communities" feature on its social media platform Threads, which has grown to over 400 million users. The feature aims to create dedicated spaces for people to discuss specific topics and interests, such as "NBA Threads," "Book Threads," and "Tech Threads." These communities will have custom emoji for likes and their posts will be ranked to surface more relevant content. The communities feature is an evolution of Threads' custom feeds and topic tags, with the goal of fostering more casual and engaging conversations. While similar to Twitter's communities feature, Meta's implementation could help address user complaints about Threads' algorithm and recommendation system, as the communities people join will influence the content they see in their main feed.
