A free, ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming option might be on the way
Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch an ad-supported version of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which recently exited beta. The free tier will allow users to play select games they own, as well as a selection of Xbox Retro Classics titles and Free Play Days games, without a paid Game Pass subscription. However, the free version will come with significant restrictions, including a one-hour time limit per session (up to five times per month), and users will have to watch several minutes of ads before starting a game. The streaming quality will also be capped at 1080p, while the paid Game Pass tiers will have access to higher resolutions. Microsoft's goal is to attract more users to its cloud gaming platform by offering a free, ad-supported option, but the trade-offs may discourage some potential users.
