Google rolls out end-to-end Gmail encryption for non-Gmail recipients

Google has announced that its Google Workspace users with access to Gmail client-side encryption can now use full end-to-end encryption in the Gmail client, even when sending emails to non-Gmail recipients. This means that the content of the email is fully encrypted by the Gmail client before being sent, protecting it from eavesdropping. However, the subject line and addressed recipients are not covered by this end-to-end encryption. The new feature allows users to send end-to-end encrypted emails from the Gmail client to recipients using other email services, such as Outlook or their own email servers. Upon receipt, the recipient will be notified that the content of the email is encrypted and must confirm their login to decrypt and read the email. The rollout of this feature began on September 30th and may take up to 15 days for all eligible users to have access.
