Borderlands 4 review – the chaotic, colourful shooter has finally grown up a little

Borderlands 4, the latest installment in the popular looter-shooter franchise, has finally matured. While retaining the series' signature cel-shaded graphics, chaotic gunplay, and vast arsenal of weapons, the game's storyline and characters have become more nuanced and less juvenile. The humour, though still hit-or-miss, is more sophisticated than in previous entries. Despite a somewhat formulaic start, the narrative eventually takes unexpected and engaging turns, providing a decent overall experience. Borderlands 4 may not reinvent the wheel, but it represents a step forward for the series, delivering a well-honed and less juvenile take on the chaotic, colourful shooter gameplay that fans have come to expect.
