Massive Attack remove music from Spotify to protest against CEO Daniel Ek’s investment in AI military

Massive Attack, a renowned band, has decided to remove their music from Spotify in protest against the company's CEO, Daniel Ek, investing €600m in the military AI company Helsing. Helsing's software uses AI technology to analyze data from battlefields and inform real-time military decisions, including the production of military drones. Massive Attack cited a "moral and ethical burden" placed on artists by revenue from their work ultimately funding lethal technologies. The band drew a parallel to the effective artist action during apartheid South Africa, where the withdrawal of work by artists, musicians, and actors contributed to the fall of the apartheid regime. They are now calling for a similar boycott against the "genocidal state of Israel" and have appealed to all musicians to join the "No Music for Genocide" campaign in support of the wider demands of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement.
