Boox’s new smartphone-sized e-readers come with a steep price hike

Boox, a prominent e-reader manufacturer, has recently unveiled its latest pocket-sized e-readers, the P6 Pro and P6 Pro Color, in China. While these devices offer several improvements over previous models, including larger E Ink displays, increased storage, and 5G connectivity, they also come with a significant price hike. The Boox P6 Pro, with a 6.13-inch black-and-white Carta 1300 E Ink display, is priced at around $393, while the P6 Pro Color, featuring a 6.13-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 color screen, is even more expensive at around $463. These prices are higher than the previous Palma 2 model, which was priced at $300. Both devices offer 128GB of storage, expandable to 2TB, a 16MP camera, and 3,950mAh batteries. They run a customized version of Android 13 and support the use of a stylus for note-taking. The inclusion of a SIM card slot for 5G mobile data is a notable feature, but the devices are not designed to be smartphone replacements with calling capabilities.
