Bristol woman in court after teen cousin killed by XL Bully

A woman has appeared in court over a dog attack which killed her teenage cousin. Morgan Dorsett, 19, from Shrewsbury, died after being attacked by an XL Bully at a flat in Bishopsworth, Bristol, in February 2025. Kelcie Reed, 24, of Lawrence Weston, appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court earlier, charged with being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death. She has been released on conditional bail and is next due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 27 May. Avon and Somerset Police said a man in his 20s who was also arrested in connection with the incident will face no further action. Emergency services were called to the flat in Cobhorn Drive on 26 February last year after reports of a dog attack. A post-mortem examination found Dorsett died from bites to her neck and face. The dog, which was confirmed to be an XL bully named Prince, was sedated at the scene and was later put down, police said. Reed wept as the charge was read to her by District Judge Lynne Matthews.
