We were based in Amsterdam but had ventured out by train to Utrecht to visit her aunt for lunch. After a pleasant afternoon we boarded a train home, full of confidence. As my friend was preoccupied with her son, I sat gazing out the window. As station after station relieved the train of its passengers, I began to wonder if we were actually heading to Amsterdam. The scenery didnât look familiar. I held my tongue until I was sure we were heading the wrong way; then I finally spoke up. My friend was upset at the news â not only was she out of bottles and nappies for the baby, she wasnât carrying any of the medication used to manage her epilepsy.
