OpenAI wasn’t expecting Sora’s copyright drama

However, this led to a backlash, with users creating unauthorized depictions of characters like Nazi SpongeBob, criminal Pikachu, and Sora-philosophizing Rick and Morty. In response, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company would reverse course and allow rightsholders to decide how to proceed. Altman acknowledged that they had not anticipated the level of public outcry and stated that the decision was made after speaking with stakeholders.
