Meta will let you use a Quest VR headset to turn your real-world space into a virtual world

Meta is introducing a new technology called "Hyperscape" that allows users to capture their real-world spaces using a Quest VR headset and create photorealistic virtual replicas. The feature is currently in beta, and users can use the Hyperscape Capture app on their Quest 3 or Quest 3S headsets to create these virtual environments. Initially, users will only be able to visit the rooms they have scanned themselves, but Meta plans to enable users to share their scanned rooms with others through private links in the near future. The company showcased the technology at the Connect 2024 event, and the virtual recreations, such as Gordon Ramsay's home kitchen, look highly detailed and realistic, though the illusion may break down upon closer inspection. The capture process involves walking around a room while wearing the headset, and a virtual mesh starts to appear over the objects being scanned. Meta says the full scan is then uploaded to the cloud for processing, which takes a few hours before the user can experience the virtual replica.
