Microsoft starts rolling out Xbox age verification in the UK
Microsoft has started rolling out age verification for Xbox players in the UK, in compliance with the country's Online Safety Act. The prompts will be shown to players who indicate they are over 18 when signing into their Xbox account. Microsoft is partnering with Yoti, a service that provides age verification, to implement this feature. While the age verification checks are optional for now, they will become mandatory in early 2026 to access various Xbox services in the UK. If players do not verify their age by then, their social features will be limited to friends only until the process is completed. This change will not affect previous purchases, entitlements, gameplay history, or the ability to play and purchase games. Microsoft is exploring bringing similar age verification tools to other countries in the future, though the methods may differ across regions and experiences.
