Oliver Russell obituary

Oliver Russell, a lifelong advocate for the rights of individuals with learning disabilities, has passed away at the age of 89. He co-founded the Norah Fry research centre for disability studies at Bristol University in 1988 and served as its honorary director. Russell played a crucial role in the development of the 2001 Valuing People white paper, which led to the establishment of local partnership boards that prioritized consulting individuals and their families on all aspects of their care. Through his tireless efforts, Russell made significant contributions towards improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and ensuring their voices were heard in the decision-making process.
