Carlingford Lough: Body of man found after fishing boat sinks

The body of a man has been found after a fishing boat with two people on board sank in Carlingford Lough. A search operation was launched after the boat got into difficulty near Greencastle point in County Down on Tuesday. Another man was picked up by a local boat and transferred into the care of paramedics at Greenore harbour in County Louth in the Republic of Ireland. The Irish Coast Guard received a call from a member of the public at 12:30 BST on Tuesday. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said: "As a result of these searches, sadly, the body of a man was located." Police added the death "is not being treated as suspicious at this time, however, a post-mortem will take place in due course". Michael Muckian, chair of the Cooley Peninsula Community Alert group, said there was a "sense of loss that people going out to have some leisurely fishing on a Tuesday in June could find themselves in such a situation". He added that the incident was "a reminder to anyone... on or near water to take precautions". "Unfortunately, tragedy has struck us yet again."
