Apple is reportedly pulling staff from the Vision Pro to work on its smart glasses

Apple is reportedly shifting its focus from the Vision Pro to the development of its own smart glasses, a move that aims to compete more directly with Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has told staff that it's moving team members working on a cheaper and lighter version of the Vision Pro to accelerate the development of its smart glasses. Apple is said to be developing two models of smart glasses, one without a display that will pair with iPhones, and another with an augmented reality display that can rival Meta's offerings. The company plans to launch the first model in 2027 and is looking to expedite the development of the augmented reality version to release it earlier than the originally planned 2028 timeframe. The smart glasses are expected to feature a variety of styles, a new chip, speakers for playback, and cameras for capturing images and videos. Apple is also aiming to equip the glasses with health-tracking capabilities. While the company is prioritizing its smart glasses, it hasn't abandoned the Vision Pro altogether, as indicated by recent FCC documents referencing an updated "Head Mounted Device" by Apple.
