Royal Victoria Hospital: Man dies after fire at Belfast hospital ED

A man in his 30s has died following a fire in the emergency department (ED) of a Belfast hospital. On Wednesday evening, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) were called to a blaze in the ground floor of the Royal Victoria Hospital. The NIFRS said a man was injured following a fire in the toilets of the ED. BBC News NI understands he was treated for burns. He has since died in hospital. Police say they are not treating his death as suspicious. The main entrance of the ED is now open. Despite five fire engines being sent to the hospital, the blaze was extinguished before they arrived. An expanded service means the time of day or night a stroke occurs is no longer a barrier to treatment. The deadlock over the Orange Order march in Portadown - opposed by residents of the Garvaghy Road - has lasted since last Sunday morning. Facing questions in the Stormont assembly, O'Neill said she was "proud" to stand with the residents and "will continue to stand with them". Twenty-nine people, including a woman pregnant with twins, died when the bomb tore through Omagh town centre. Two separate shootings in Coleraine are being treated as attempted murder by the PSNI.
