Amazon to pay $2.5B settlement over tricking Prime subscribers - how to get your share

Amazon has agreed to pay a $2.5 billion settlement to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over allegations of using deceptive tactics to sign up customers for its Prime subscription service. The FTC claims that Amazon made it challenging for customers to cancel their Prime memberships, even after they had signed up. The company is accused of using tactics such as hidden fees, unclear cancellation processes, and other misleading practices to retain Prime subscribers. As part of the settlement, Amazon will provide refunds to eligible customers who were affected by these tactics. Customers who were enrolled in Prime between 2016 and 2023 and faced difficulties in cancelling their membership may be eligible for a share of the settlement. The settlement serves as a warning to companies that engage in unfair or deceptive practices, and it aims to protect consumers from being misled or trapped in unwanted subscriptions.
