These are the Office icons Microsoft rejected

Microsoft has revealed a set of design concepts they explored before finalizing the new curvy and colorful icons for their Office suite. The Word concept icons include experiments with a notepad-like design and different ways to visualize stacks of paper or documents. For Excel, the concepts mostly stayed true to the existing focus on cells, with the "X" icon being a standout. PowerPoint's concepts explored various ways of visualizing slides, including a ribbon-like "P" and a "P" with a pie chart. Microsoft eventually settled on more tame final designs, keeping the horizontal bar for Word, the cell-based approach for Excel, and a rounded, colorful take on the current PowerPoint icon. The new icons are now rolling out across Windows and iOS, with the letter-based versions used in Windows and the icon-only versions for iOS.
