A “cosmic carpool” is traveling to a distant space weather observation post

A group of spacecraft is being launched together to a distant observation post to study space weather. This "cosmic carpool" consists of three satellites: NOAA's Space Weather Follow On-Lagrange 1 (SWFO-L1), the Compact Coronagraph (CCOR), and the Space Environment In-Situ Suite (SEISS). The primary goal of this mission is to monitor the Sun's activity and its impact on the Earth's space environment. The SWFO-L1 satellite will be positioned at the Lagrange 1 point, a gravitationally stable location between the Earth and the Sun, to provide real-time data on solar storms and their potential effects on communication and power grids. The CCOR and SEISS satellites will accompany the SWFO-L1 to enhance the overall observational capabilities of the mission. The launch is scheduled for early 2023, and the data collected will be crucial for improving space weather forecasting and protecting critical infrastructure on Earth.
