Microsoft launches 365 Premium for consumers, retires Copilot Pro

Microsoft has launched a new subscription plan called Microsoft 365 Premium, which combines the existing Microsoft 365 Family plan with the Copilot Pro service. Priced at $19.99 per month, the Premium plan offers a range of features, including access to Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as 1TB of storage and extended AI usage limits for GPT-5 and image generation. The company has also announced the retirement of the standalone Copilot Pro subscription, which was previously offered to business users. Microsoft has compared the new Premium plan to ChatGPT Plus, suggesting it is aimed at competing with OpenAI's service. Existing Microsoft 365 subscribers can upgrade to the Premium plan, but their current subscription will not carry over entirely. Instead, they will receive a credit for the remaining days on their existing plan. Microsoft has also added some new features to the standard Microsoft 365 Family and Personal tiers, including 40 image generation in Office apps, unlimited use of Copilot Voice, and additional AI-powered features like Podcasts, Vision, and Deep Research.
