Ahead of the extended look at GTA 6 on Netflix, Rockstar has addressed leaked gameplay videos in a statement. Rockstar Games has issued a statement on the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, just ahead of an official extended look at the game. The publisher — publicly acknowledging for the first time that the clips are legitimate — called the leaked videos "heartbreaking for our team" and indicated they may include some spoilers. It added that "this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time." Days before an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 was due to stream on Netflix, Rockstar Games publicly confirmed that leaked gameplay clips circulating online were legitimate, calling them 'heartbreaking for our team' and apologizing for the long wait and the secrecy around official footage. The studio said the game was nearly finished, though it would keep receiving updates for years, and confirmed a November 19 release date. The Netflix extended look, 26 minutes of edited PlayStation 5 gameplay, streamed on August 27, and coverage filled in the details: the game exists in its own universe, its relationship system lets players keep protagonists Jason and Lucia in the friend zone, and players will not be able to hot-wire every car. Within a day the Netflix release was reported as the number one movie on streaming. In two days the story moved from leak damage control to a record-setting debut, with the terms of the Netflix-Rockstar deal undisclosed.
