Google says reports of a major Gmail security issue are 'entirely false'

Google has strongly refuted recent reports claiming a "major" security issue with Gmail. The company has reassured its users that Gmail's security protections are robust and effective, and that the claims circulating are "entirely false." Google clarified that the reports seem to be referring to a Salesforce phishing incident from June, which the company had already addressed by notifying affected users in August. However, this incident was incorrectly portrayed as a widespread warning to all 2.5 billion Gmail users. Google emphasized that while phishers are constantly looking for ways to infiltrate inboxes, its protections block more than 99.9% of such attempts. The company also encouraged users to set up secure password alternatives, such as passkeys, for maximum protection. The tech giant stressed the importance of maintaining accurate and factual discussions regarding cybersecurity issues, as it aims to provide its users with reliable and trustworthy information.
