Snapchat allows drug dealers to operate openly on platform, finds Danish study

Snapchat Accused of Failing to Curb Drug Dealing on Its Platform According to a Danish research organization, Digitalt Ansvar, Snapchat has been accused of allowing an "overwhelming number" of drug dealers to openly operate on its platform. The study found that Snapchat has failed to filter out obvious usernames related to the sale of substances like cocaine, opioids, and MDMA, making it easy for children to access these illegal drugs. Despite Snapchat's claim that it uses technology to proactively filter out drug-related profiles, the research found evidence of a lack of adequate moderation in addressing drug-related language in usernames and responding to reports of profiles openly selling drugs. The findings raise concerns about Snapchat's responsibility in preventing the platform from being used for illegal drug trade, and the potential impact on vulnerable users, particularly children.
