Windows 11’s market share plummets as Windows 10 surges

In July 2025, Microsoft's Windows 11 surpassed Windows 10 in global market share, reaching 53.51% compared to Windows 10's 42.88%. However, this trend reversed in August 2025, with Windows 11's market share dropping to 49.08% while Windows 10's rose to 45.53%, a decrease of around 4.4 percentage points for Windows 11. The resurgence of Windows 10 can be attributed to Microsoft's Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, which allows users to continue receiving security updates for Windows 10 after the October 2025 end-of-support deadline. Additionally, a free tool is available to keep users on a secure version of Windows 10 until 2032. The statistics suggest that many people are reluctant to migrate to Windows 11 and are determined to stick with Windows 10, despite the looming end-of-support deadline. This highlights the strong user preference for Windows 10, even as Microsoft continues to push for the adoption of its newer operating system.
