Whistleblower claims DOGE uploaded Social Security data to unsecure cloud server

A whistleblower, Charles Borges, the Social Security Administration's (SSA) chief data officer, has filed a complaint alleging that members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uploaded a copy of the Numerical Identification System (Numident) database, which contains personal information of hundreds of millions of Americans, to an unsecured cloud environment in June. The complaint states that the data, including names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and parents' names, was exposed to the risk of identity theft and loss of vital benefits. The approvals for this data transfer were made despite the enormous risk, with the Chief Information Officer, Aram Moghaddassi, and another senior DOGE official, Michael Russo, signing off on the decision. The SSA has stated that it is not aware of any compromise to the environment where the data is stored, but the whistleblower's concerns highlight the potential consequences of such a breach.
