Apple's new wireless chips give it even more control of the iPhone

Apple has introduced two new wireless chips, the C1X and N1, in its latest iPhone Air model. The C1X modem supports 5G and 4G LTE connectivity, with up to two times faster performance than the previous C1 modem, while consuming 30% less energy. The N1 chip enables Bluetooth 6, Wi-Fi 7, and Thread for smart home control. These new chips, combined with the powerful A19 Pro processor, allow for a thinner iPhone Air design without compromising performance. Apple's move towards custom-designed components, including potentially combining the modem and processor into a single chip, is part of the company's strategy to reduce its reliance on third-party suppliers and gain more control over its products.
