Amazon ends shared Prime shipping
Amazon is ending its Prime Invitee program, which allowed members to extend free shipping to people outside their household. Starting October 1, users who don't live with the primary account owner will be prompted to create their own Amazon Prime accounts, with a discounted rate of $14.99 for the first year and the standard $14.99 per month thereafter. Amazon is encouraging users to take advantage of the Amazon Family program, which allows sharing of Prime benefits among multiple people under the same roof, up to two adults and four children or teens. The company is cracking down on account sharing, following the trend of major subscription-based online services, as it aims to boost new Prime account sign-ups.
