Microsoft Excel now uses AI to auto-suggest formulas in real time

Microsoft Excel has introduced a new AI-powered feature called "formula completion" that automatically suggests and auto-completes formulas as users type the "=" symbol in a cell. This feature aims to simplify the process of using formulas in Excel, which can be a complex and time-consuming task for many users. The AI models behind the feature analyze the context and structure of the current workbook to predict the user's intentions and generate relevant formula suggestions. These suggestions come with a preview and a plain-language description of what the formula is meant to accomplish. As the user continues typing, the suggestions are updated to better match their intentions. Formula completion can handle various workbook complexities, such as financial data calculations, REGEX statements, and dynamic formulas. However, it currently does not support referencing other workbooks. The feature is currently rolling out to Copilot users on Excel Web for US English, with plans to expand it to Excel Desktop and other languages in the future.
