Dolby announces Dolby Vision 2, expanding picture quality 'beyond HDR'
Dolby, the industry leader in HDR technology, has announced the launch of Dolby Vision 2, a significant evolution of its picture quality innovation. The new standard includes a more powerful image engine, better optimization for TVs, and features that go "beyond HDR." Dolby Vision 2 introduces Content Intelligence, which uses AI to automatically adapt the TV settings to the content being watched and the viewing environment. This includes tools like Precision Black, Light Sense, and Sports and Gaming Optimization. The new standard also features bi-directional tone mapping, which allows premium TVs to deliver higher brightness, sharper contrast, and deeper colors while maintaining the artist's intent. Dolby Vision 2 will be available in two versions: Dolby Vision 2 Max for premium TVs and regular Dolby Vision 2 for mainstream models. Hisense will be the first to offer Dolby Vision 2 support on its "premium" TVs, and the French streaming service Canal+ also plans to leverage the new technology for its content.
