Google adds iPhone-like ‘Calling Cards’ to its Phone app

Google's Phone app is introducing "Calling Cards" that allow users to customize the appearance of contact screens for incoming calls. Similar to the Contact Poster feature on iPhones, Calling Cards let users replace the small contact photos with full-screen images and stylized names. The update is part of Android's Material 3 Expressive design language overhaul, and Calling Cards are being rolled out in phases worldwide. Users can create Calling Cards for each contact by selecting an image and choosing a font and color option for the contact's name. Unlike Contact Posters on iOS, Calling Cards are specific to the user's device and cannot be designed to appear for other contacts when they call. Alongside Calling Cards, the Phone app is also introducing a "Take a Message" feature that automatically answers and transcribes voicemails when a call is missed. Users can record a custom greeting or select from available presets, and the transcripts and voicemail audio can be accessed in the Phone app's Recents tab.
